The effect of balanced versus non-balanced fluid replacement on urinary biomarkers in patients undergoing colectomy: a prospective observational pilot study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Intr Several studies have suggested an association between chloride rich fluids and acute kidney injury (AKI) in perioperative and critically ill patients [1]. The mechanism of injury has not been fully described but renal haemodynamic effects and a change in oxidative stress have been hypothesised. Urinary Cystatin C (uCysC) is a sensitive and early marker of renal tubular injury [2]. Levels of uCysC correlate well with adverse clinical outcomes such as AKI and mortality. Urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (uNGAL) has been shown to be an excellent predictor of acute renal injury in paediatric and adult cardiac surgery [3] but has not previously been studied in noncardiac surgery.

Major complications, mortality, and resource utilization after open abdominal surgery: 0.9% saline compared to Plasma-Lyte.
OBJECTIVE To assess the association of 0.9% saline use versus a calcium-free physiologically balanced crystalloid solution with major morbidity and clinical resource use after abdominal surgery. BACKGROUND 0.9% saline, which results in a hyperchloremic acidosis after infusion, is frequently used to replace volume losses after major surgery. METHODS An observational study using the Premier P...
متن کاملA prospective Crossover Triple-blind Controlled Trial on the Safety and Efficacy of Iranian Recombinant FVIII (Safacto) versus Plasma Derived FVIII A pilot study
Background: Considering the increasing number of patients with hemophilia and infrastructure requirements for a comprehensive approach, development of a recombinant factor has become a milestone. The objective of this study was to assess the safety, efficacy and non inferiority of Safacto (Recombinant factor VIII) compared with plasma-derived factor in the treatment of hemophilia A. Methods: 10 ...
متن کاملComparison of preemptive effect of intravenous ketorolac versus meperidine on postoperative shivering and pain in patients undergoing cesarean section under spinal anesthesia: A prospective, randomized, double-blind study
Background: Pain and shivering are two unpleasant problems in postoperative period. Various techniques are used to alleviate the postoperative shivering and pain. We compared the preemptive prescription of a single dose of intravenous meperidine and ketorolac on postoperative pain and shivering in patients undergoing cesarean section with spinal anesthesia. Methods: One hundred and ...
متن کاملBetter Survival of Total Knee Replacement in Patients Older Than 70 Years: A Prospective Study with 8 To 12 Years Follow-Up
Background: Modern knee designs have popularized its use in younger patients due to its better performance. There remains uncertainty whether higher demands of these patients can affect implant survivorship. Purpose: To assess whether modern knee designs have provided similar results in patients younger than 70 years versus older patients. Methods: We included 203 consecutive patients (236 ...
متن کاملAssessment of acute kidney injury by urinary β2-MG and NAG in pediatric cancer patients prescribed with Cisplatin, Carboplatin, and Ifosfamide as the chemotherapeutic agents
Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is defined as a failure in renal function leading to insufficiency of fluid and electrolyte homeostasis. Thus, sensitive biomarkers of renal tubular injury are needed to detect AKI earlier. In this study, urinary beta 2-microglobulin (β2-MG) and urinary N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) were evaluated for AKI prognosis/diagnosis in pediatric patients suffe...
